Topic: Annoying problem with No Realms are available right now

Hi guys,

I don't know what I'm doing wrong I'm stuck. When I start bnetd and connect to Diablo 2 LoD 1.12 started server then I create account and when Diablo wants connect to realm it throws:
No Realms are available right now. Please try again later.

If you're asking about wrong configured IP address (0.0.0.0), then I've tried my real ip address instead of 0.0.0.0. Everything is on LAN, without firewall and open ports. Do you have any other recommendation how to get working realms for diablo 2 expansion? Thank you very much.

Uncomment "gameservlist" in d2cs.conf and use direct IPs instead of 0.0.0.0.

Same problem. I've changed every local address to real IP and also uncommented gameservlist. Do you have any other recommendation? Now I have open to world 3 ports:  6112, 6113, 6200 TCP. Does realm/game server list work on another port?

Configs and logs are in attachment. Maybe there can be problem with d2bds.conf where I have also set servaddrs and gameservlist to zeroes? Also port 6114 servaddrs is closed for input in iptables but I think it won't have any meaning why this not work, or am I wrong? Please look at my configs, specially for d2bds and give me your advice. Whole bnetd server run under docker so it's kinda virtualized in own pool subnet but I've mapped same internal ports as public so it should work as usual server, because I've also tried your latest pvpgn battle net server on my own LAN windows machine and I have same problem. So docker isn't blocking it.

Fix wrong parameter in d2dbs.conf and replace 0.0.0.0 to your server address everywhere:

gameservlist            =       0.0.0.0,<another-d2gs-IP>

If it doesn't help then attach also d2cs.log and d2dbs.log

Same problem.
I Can't find d2cs.log and d2dbs.log, I assume it'll be inside /usr/local/pvpgn/var/pvpgn, but It isn't here:

I attached Log with real gameservlist (without servaddrs = 0.0.0.0) IP Address set in d2dbs.conf and Log with real gameservlist and servaddrs IP Address set in d2dbs.conf

PS: Is condition to have open TCP port 6114 or it can be closed? I have it closed all the time.

It may mean that d2cs can not create a log file if you can't find it, and it fails. Because there is no log entry in bnetd.log when d2cs should be connected.
6114 can be closed from outside, because d2dbs connected only between d2cs and d2gs.
6113 must be opened for d2cs.

I don't know why d2cs can't establish socket listening:

Have you any idea where could be problem? I'm stuck because I don't know what can block to establish socket listening. Also same on windows machine in LAN without limitations..
I'll play with it and I share my results, but It's really weird.

Re: Annoying problem with No Realms are available right now

46.36.35.225 is not valid IP for the machine where you try running D2CS.

Use local machine IP in configs and configure address_translation.conf if your machine is under NAT (router etc.) and you want provide access for internal and external users. Or leave it blank if only external users will connect to your server.

Local machine IP you can find using commands ipconfig(windows) / ifconfig(unix).

Do not ask for support in PM.

Thank you for advice. You're right that server is behind NAT, but I thought d2cs is little bit more inteligent to pass throught, because bnetd do it right way, so I will try to set correctly address_translation.conf to translate address and I will see. However I've tried bnetd with d2cs on LAN machine and everything works fine when I specify exact IP address of machine.

I've given up running PVPGN under docker container, so I've copied compiled folder and put on server which is directly connected to the internet. I've configured exact IP address as it listen, it's not behind NAT. I've successfully ran bnetd, d2cs, d2dbs. I've logged into battlenet server and when I try to create game room it will say: You are in line to create a game. Try joining a game to avoid waiting. Your line in position is: 1.. Do you have any clue how to create game? I've found lot of discussions on this topic but without any results, one person said that's problem with address_translation.conf, but I don't have server now behind NAT, it's directly connected.

Maybe problem with d2dbs? It still waits for connection:

D2DBS works together with D2GS as a database for characters (it's called Closed Server).
If you are running D2CS without D2GS then users will play between their computers, where one of them will host a game (it's called Open Server, so players can easily use cheats).

I'm not sure why the problem appears in your case, but it seems because of NAT and address_translation.conf (players can't connect to D2CS server).

I guess first you should try a connection to your server inside your local network without NAT (from a different computer, not where the server is installed). Then open all needed ports on your router and try connection from outside. And then look into address_translation.conf to add an appropriate rule.

I've tried Diablo 2 Server (Bnetd+D2CS) in two subnets on different machines.

(All IP Addresses are imaginary but their description respects reallity how they works)

First scenario:
Server:
Bnets+D2CS on linux with 10.10.10.2 public address which is not behind NAT, It's just open to world and only thing is IPTables which are applied and needed ports are open (it's server with paid connection in datacenter).
Client:
Inside another, private network LAN where client has IP 192.168.1.2. Client is behind NAT but it doesn't matter in my opinion. So via gateway editor I set new Battlenet GW for IP 10.10.10.2, check detect = everything is ok. So I start Diablo 2 Lod 1.12a and try to connect 10.10.10.2 bnet server. I successfully login to server, create account, create char, and when I want to create room it always stuck at: You are in line to create a game. Try joining a game to avoid waiting. Your line in position is: 1.

Second scenario:
Server:
Bnets+D2CS on windows with 192.168.1.5 LAN address which is behind NAT with public address 20.20.20.2, ports are forwarded from public network to specific machine so 20.20.20.2 FORWARD 192.168.1.5 on BNETD and D2CS ports on Router. But it doesn't matter because I will use just LAN network for accessing server in same LAN.
Client:
Inside same LAN client has 192.168.1.2 address which is also behind NAT but it doesn't matter because it will try to access just on LAN. I really don't know where should be problem because on Network layer is everything accessible and there is not problem. I think D2CS or BNETD has some problem on Application or Transport layer. In First and Second scenario I've tried to edit address_translation with all possible scenarios but it hasn't any affect, every time same situation. I understand networking and servers and I really don't understand this situation because from my view is everything correct.

I have question for you HarpyWar: How do you setup diablo 2 server? In short:

1. Compile source
2. Configure addresses inside configs (not address_translation)
2. Start bnetd
3. Start d2cs
4. Join from same network with client to server without needing to put something inside address_translation because there is no sense to translate any ip in same LAN and translating can't work in this situation even if it's configured.

I have created a server on a pc with Windows 7 using the PVPGN 1.8.0 RC Setup.exe. I was able to follow the basic install prompts and the server was created successfully. Right away, I was able to play on the server inside a LAN connection with 2 separate computers in an open-battlenet game. I then decided to edit the conf files accordingly and play over closed battlenet. I received a "No realms available" error that I can't seem to fix. I researched the problem and the common issue seems to be improper editing of the "realm.conf" file. But I rechecked that file and it seems to be correct.
My ports inside the windows firewall and inside my router are forwarded accordingly. I have edited all of the necessary local and external IPs inside the conf files. I will post my log below:

Ok, I figured my issue. I was unaware that I needed to load D2cs and D2dbs along with PVPGN... I feel a bit silly. I am able to join the closed bnet server now and create a character. However I now have the other issue of not being able to create a room. I get the infamous "You are in line to create a game. Your position is: 1" message. Might it be a registry issue somehow?

Alright, I see that I need to be using d2GS alongside PVPGN in order to use a closed bnet connection.  Can I just install D2GS at this point or will I need to reinstall PVPGN as well? I wonder, is there a comprehensive install package that includes all files (PVPGN and D2GS) necessary to start a Diablo 2 server? As an executable installer with simple prompts and walk-through set up?

Joe Schmoe, you can download all the needed files for D2GS using Magic Builder (PvPGN can be also build from it).
Start build_d2gs.bat and select (marsgod) version.
When it's completed edit d2gs.reg and execute install.bat it to save the config into the registry and setup windows service.
(note, on latest windows versions, I think since desktop version 8 and server version 2012, D2GS will not run as a service and you should run it as a normal program http://forums.harpywar.com/viewtopic.ph … 011#p7011)

Running D2GS+PvPGN is really complex sometimes, in particularly for newbies, and you need to have some experience to get it working.

Thank you for the reply. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to hear from anyone. So, thank you for your time. I have gotten both D2GS and PvPGN running now. I started the debug process and and I ran into a little problem. I am trying to telnet to the server and it is asking me for a username for telnet. I don't remember creating a username. I can remember the password I created when I connected with telnet the first time, but I don't believe I set up a username. I there a default username I should be using for telnet?

D2GS telnet is on port 8888. May be you are connecting to PvPGN on 6112?

Yes, port 8888 on D2GS. Initially, I connected to D2GS with telnet and changed the password. I attempted to reconnect to D2GS with telnet, and it is now asking me for a username to log in to the server. I never created a username when using telnet.

Thank you for your continues assistance. I uninstalled everything and am starting from scratch. Again. I'm determined to get this working. After I have it all installed and set up again, I'll be back with my IP info for you. I'm getting closer to having this server running. I've decided to use a virtual machine for the install this time so that I don't have to mess with the registry on my HD.

Here are the files I am using for the PvPGN/D2GS installation:

  • PvPGN.1.8.0.RC2.Setup

  • D2GS-113c

I took PvPGN.1.8.0.RC2.Setup from khanduras.net/repo/pvpgn-1-8-0-rc2-setup-exe/
and D2GS-113c from www.pvpgn.pl/d2gs/.

Using that PvPGN installer, I was able to setup PvPGN and play Diablo 2 LOD games from 2 different PCs on the same connection through Open-Bnet. When I realized I needed to install D2GS alongside PvPGN in order to play on a closed server, I used the D2GS-113c zip to set up the server. That is when I ran into the telnet username issue. My question for you now is will those 2 installers I am using create a functioning server? Or are they not compatible? Are there any files I need that are not included in these 2 installers? Thank you for your patience.

I keep fingers crossed Joe Schmoe, I hope you will get working whole PVPGN for diablo. I've given up this because it's totally confusing. I appreciate from HarpyWar some deeper communication or flow diagram how exactly communication between server, router, network, client works. I think lot of people end with famous message Your line in position is: 1. I would appreciate some step-by-step tutorial inside LAN and also outside in WAN and where must be person really careful with address translation config, which is for me totally baffling. I can compile linux kernel with specific x server etc... but this is for me wasting of time but I like to see somebody to get this working.

I will continually watch this thread and your steps Joe with HarpyWar help.

It's just my opinion and I don't want to discourage somebody.

Yes, it is very confusing for me. HarpyWar was right. I am a newb and it shows when I try to get D2GS working with PvPGN. I was also not able to get passed the "Waiting in line" message. I have since given up on D2GS and am just enjoying the PvPGN open server games inside my own LAN. I will get back to D2GS later. I need a break from that for now! Thanks for your encouragement. If I should ever happen to get it working, I'll post some direction here. Were you able to get PvPGN working on Open-bnet games inside your LAN? (meaning, without D2GS.)

I haven't tried D2GS because I wanted to play just Open-bnet games, is neccessary to run D2GS to play via internet? I think D2CS is enought to play via Internet or am I wrong? But even with simple D2CS I've also ended with same message Your line in position is: 1 even when I was just on local lan network, I don't know where is problem, maybe I'll try wireshark how traffic goes from D2CS to client and backwards.

Maybe stupid question, but I think D2GS is type of game, where players plays diablo on the server side where are also stored characters. However D2CS is just type of game where players plays also throught server but their chars are stored on their HDDs so in result both types of game servers supports play via Internet but first one is more secure and second one is less secure?

D2CS is just P2P where person which created room must have open ports to the internet and D2GS on the other hand solves all these problems and it's fully standalone dedicated server without need to setup any address translations etc?

I hope you understand my question, thank you for reply if you know something about this.

Those aren't stupid questions. Yes, D2GS is for creating a closed game server. PvPGN alone is used for Open-bnet games. I have found that I did not even need to start D2CS with PvPGN in order to play Open games within my own LAN connection. I have managed to get it working for games within my LAN. I have tested this with 2 different PCs in the same network and am able to create and join games with both. I am also able to connect to the server from computers outside of my network. However, D2GS is a whole different beast. I cannot get passed the character creation screen when trying to join the closed D2GS server.

I will try to help you get PvPGN running the way I did it. First, which version of Windows are you running?

The last conf file to edit is the "version check" conf file. Just make sure that the version you are using is listed in the file. I'm not sure how important this is as "allow_unknown_version = true" in the bnetd conf file. But I made sure to update version check conf file just for good measure.

3) Double-click the "install" batch file in the PvPGN directory to install  the D2CS and D2DBS services. You can check to make sure they are installed by navigating to Start>Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools and checking the Component Services. Select Services (Local) and check to be sure the D2CS and D2DBS services are present.

Open Battlenet Gateway Editor and configure it this way:

Select the Diablo2/Diablo2Exp tab at the bottom of the window. Click "Add Gateway." Configure it to read:

Name: D2CS
Zone: 6
IP: YOUR LOCAL IP ADDRESS (ex: If your local IP address is 192.168.1.1, then you would enter it as your IP)

Click ok when you have finished entering the info and then select D2CS from the list of gateways. Click "Detect Gateway" and test to be sure it is connecting properly. If it connects, then click Set to Chosen Gateway. You can now exit the Gateway Editor.
NOTE: You will need to repeat the Gateway Editor process for every computer in your network that plans to use the server.

6) Start the Diablo 2 game and check to make sure you are using gateway: D2CS. Now navigate to OTHER MULTIPLAYER and start an OPEN BATTLE.NET game.

I am assuming that you have the correct ports opened/forwarded in your Windows firewall and router. You should now be able to play Open Bnet games inside your LAN.
