Topic: D2GS process disappears

Hello, I am using magic builder 2.06 on Windows 7 , 64 bit.
From my understanding, I need to activate pvpgn.exe , d2cs, d2bs and d2gs to have a running D2 server.
I activate d2gs.exe but when I activate d2cs.exe , the d2gs process disappears. As it stands, I am able to connect to the realm and go into channels, but I can't create games because d2gs is not running.

I noticed there is a d2gssvc (service) , but it's not installing... Is d2gs supposed to be a service or a process? How can I stop the conflict between d2cs and d2gs?

For the d2gs from marsgod 1.13, I followed the instructions as per readme file and the service starts. However, when I click D2GS application, there is no process appearing. Do I need to have a process in addition to the service? Even with the service running, there is no change in the situation ( Creating a game, 1st in queue => cannot create game). I feel like I'm so close... yet so far from my objective because I can't run d2gs on win7.

Thank you for all the work you're doing HarpyWar, I came across your guide on youtube and I found this forum.

Re: D2GS process disappears

D2GS.exe can not be run as a normal application.
D2GSSVC.exe is a windows service wrapper that can be installed using cmd line parameter "D2GSSVC.exe -i" and when you start it from Services then it runs D2GS.exe.

To pinpoint problem source you should attach here d2gs.reg (make sure the same data in the registry) and all *.log files from d2gs directory and pvpgn/var directory, and configs.

Re: D2GS process disappears

You can't connect to D2GS server from the same machine where a server is running.

Re: D2GS process disappears

Well, I installed D2 on my old laptop and tried connecting via Lan and it gives the same error. I connect to the realm, go into channel and then attempt creating a game. "Creating game 1st in line"... this message is displayed indefinitely.

EDIT: if you can take a look with windows remote connection maybe you can find the problem i don't know...

Re: D2GS process disappears

I was wrong with D2GSSVC.exe, it seems it was rejected in one of the marsgod versions, and this program wrapper is no more needed.
Now D2GS.exe is not a service application and it can be run like a normal windows program (but without GUI).

Re: D2GS process disappears

Ok, I was doing something completely wrong. I had 1.13d Diablo installed. I needed to have 1.13c. So I installed that and I got past the "Creating game... Waiting 1st in line..." problem. However it still doesn't create a game. Now I get the loading screen but the door doesn't open, only "Connection interrupted" and "Failed to join game". Connection interrupt when I try creating game from the same pc running d2gs and failed to join game from another computer on the lan.

Re: D2GS process disappears

"Failed to join game" appears when error in character file or d2dbs server. Try create a new character, may be it was created earlier in 1.13d.

Re: D2GS process disappears

I'm not sure but if you receive" failed to join game" error it may mean that you have a wrong client version (non-consistent with the server files).

OK the problem was running the d2GS application. I stopped running the d2gs.exe and only run the service. With the service running, I managed to create a game!!! Yes... finally.  smile  So the problems were wrong D2 version and required to run only the d2gs service (Not the exe process). 2 very simple mistakes and 2 completely different results.

However, the game closes after 20 seconds. Error message: Warden closing your game = [reason = 255]. I don't know what is reason 255 or how to fix it. Open to suggestions.

Re: D2GS process disappears

You should disable warden in d2server.ini.

Or use tesseract d2gs version, it needs modified d2cs https://github.com/tesseract2048/d2gs/issues/11

Re: D2GS process disappears

I dont want to disable warden... the goal was to prevent hackers/ botters from corrupting the server.
The error message is "You have been killed by Warden. [reason=255]

my patch_d2.mpq is 2060kb, I noticed that your patch_d2.mpq is 6400kb. I don't know how you got that, I installed Diablo 1.13c I'm sure...

Hey,

I used this khanduras.net/repo/pvpgn-1-8-0-rc2-setup-exe/ version of PvPGN and this www.pvpgn.pl/d2gs/ version of D2GS. Aside from that, I am using the basic install of Diablo 2 LOD that I bought from Walmart. Patched with the 1.13c patch from Blizzard. Using that setup, I was able to get the server working with no warden issues.

Joe

No problem. I'm still figuring things out myself, but I'll share what I can. Good luck!
