Somehow this user account can be logged into, but the characters are not showing. The character save files exist in the correct Diablo II directory, however the characters do not show in the character list in game. It appears empty...
This user was suddenly unable to log into their account because the server wouldn't recognize their password. So I changed the password by administrative control. They can now log into their account, but their characters are missing... the character save files exist, but the server wont find them for some reason. Any ideas?

I Just faced a missing characters on one user only running the linux version. After reading info about the character linkage file locations I was able to verify that (this server began as a windows server, latter on migrating to linux) this user charinfo folder had all capital letters, and a new one with all normal characters, the capital letters containing the old chars and the normal letters a new one I asked him to create.
After that, I asked him to logoff completely and joined the capital folder contents with the normal and it worked nicely without even restarting anything.
Hope that helps others that migrated from windows to linux to adress this kind of problem can happen as Linux support having same name folders as long as with different capital letters, I mean, on linux is possible to have 2 folders like FOLDER and folder at the same location, or even more any variation like a third one named Folder and a fourth named FOlder. That's it.
